Friday Morning: Best Ball (6 matches, 18 pts)
In best ball, each member of a two-man team plays his own ball, so four balls are in play on every hole. Each team counts the lowest of its two scores on each hole, and the team whose player has the lowest score wins the hole. If the low scores are tied, the hole is halved.
Friday Afternoon: Alternate Shot (6 matches, 18 pts)
In alternate shot, each two-man team plays one ball per hole with the players taking turns until each hole is complete. Players alternate hitting tee shots, with one leading off on odd-numbered holes, and the other hitting first on even-numbered holes. The team with the low score on each hole wins that hole. If their scores are tied, the hole is halved.
Dumb it down for me, please.
Nick and Logan are partners. Nick tees off on holes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17. Logan tees off on holes 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18. On a hole where Nick tees off, Logan hits the second shot, Nick hits the 3rd shot, Logan hits the fourth, until the ball is in the hole. One ball is used. Their score on the hole is compared to their opponents score on the hole. The lower of the two scores, wins the hole. If they tie, the hole is halved.
How do handicaps factor into alternate shot matches?
Two-man team's course handicaps are added together and 50% of that is their team alternate shot course handicap. Both teams do this same calculation and the difference between the two is the strokes given in the match. For example. Nick's handicap (KCC blues) is 29 and Logan's is 22. Their total is 51. 51/2 = 25.5. Their opponents, Jeff and Tyler are 14 and 34 handicaps. Total is 48. 48/2 = 24. This means that Logan and Nick will get 2 strokes on Jeff and Tyler in alternate shot.
Saturday: Singles (12 matches, 32 pts)
In singles, each match features one player from each team. The player with the lower score on each hole wins that hole. If their scores are tied, the hole is halved.
